The Sarah Ndagire StorySarah Ndagire born and raised in Uganda, the pearl and heart of Africa. Sarah Ndagire is one of the best known and most dedicated singers Uganda. She sees it as her duty to preserve the culture of her homeland and make the music, dance and culture internationally known. Numerous airplays, TV appearances, CD recordings and an impressive live career make her one of the most active and sought after artist of Uganda. In collaboration with musicians from around the world, she combines the Ugandan folk music with different musical styles and has come up with an intersting contemporary sound. Thus, in her songs you will always find traditional instruments such as Adungu (a kind of harp), Amadinda (xylophones or balafon), akogo ( thumb piano), engoma ( traditional percussions) and Endingidi, as well as modern instruments and arrangements, which are based on world sound.
Watching the energetic Sarah Ndagire perform and listening to her sing is like taking the most relaxing trip across Uganda. She brings out the true soul of an African. The Joy, Sorrow, pain, determination intelligence and perseverance. She has built an impressive repertoire made up of the most rare, unique and varied Ugandan rhythms and instruments that hitherto were played in isolation by different tribal musicians. This year Sarah Ndagire heads to Europe for a tour with abantu arts (www.abantuarts.com) This tour is dubbed "The Africa odyssey 2010” music tour of Devon which starts May. Presenting songs, stories and dances of Africa with fellow Ugandan musicians Ouma Michael, Kasume Pedison and Denis Kigongo. In June, Sarah Ndagire has been invited by the German-African band Argile to tour Germany and the neighbouring countries.(www.argile-music.de) This will enable her share stages with world reknown musicians like the mahotela queens from South Africa, Mamadou Diabate among others. Between trance grooves, Djembe-Power, Zagazougou accordion, oriental ballads on the Saz and Balkanesk-sounding dances Argile builds musical bridges in the cultural field of tension between Africa, the Orient and Europe. Numerous guest musicians from around the world, but mainly from Africa, not only enrich the music of Argile, but also provide for an ever-changing and always very impressive live show.
